Description:

OSX.Leap.A is an instant-messaging worm that will infect Macintosh OS X platform.

The worm propagates via the iChat instant messaging system, sending itself to available contacts on the infected users' buddy list in a file called latestpics.tgz.

OSX.Leap.A removal procedures requires technical know-how on  computer troubleshooting. It is better to consult your LAN Administrator or Technical Persons to avoid additional damage on your computer if modifications on Services and Registry have to be done.

  

 

MANUAL REMOVAL:

1. Delete the infected file
As of this published date the detected file infected by this worm is:
lastestpics.tgz

2. Delete any associated files and restart the compromised computer particularly on tmp directory.
/tmp/latestpics
/tmp/latestpics.tgz
/tmp/latestpics.tar.gz
/tmp/hook
/tmp/apphook
/tmp/pic.gz
/tmp/apphook.tar
/tmp/pic

 

3. If the infected file has been executed, delete the following file:
 

/Users/[CURRENT USER]/Library/InputManagers/apphook.bundle

Where: [CURRENT USER] is the name of the user who was logged in when the infected file was executed.

4. Restart the computer to remove the infection from memory.

 

5. If it infects other applications, it should be replaced from a clean backup copy.
