Completetala

Completetala is a program that may display pop-up advertisements and other forms of promotional materials. Adware are technically normal programs that were made to intentionally show ads and generate revenue. Other variants of adware are made to install programs, browser add-ons, and hijack home page of the Internet browser to accomplish tasks.

Normal ways to spread Completetala includes freeware or shareware applications. Some may acquire this threat by visiting malicious web site or web page that was uploaded to spread Completetala. Spam emails, links from social networking sites and instant messaging programs are also some of the main cause for adware infection.

When Completetala is executed, it will drop files on the computer. Registry entries are also created to run its code each time Windows starts. Modifications are then carried out on browsers like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome to display ads and redirect requested web address to a different location. The effect of Completetala may differ depending on the browser.

Adware is not a computer virus. It doesn’t spread on local network and you should never worry that it may infect files on the PC. Even though it is not as harmful as ordinary viruses, we still urge you to remove Completetala and other potentially unwanted program on your computer. This kind of software is still unsafe and recommended to exist on the system.

I did what was instructed to get rid of it, but it’s still effecting my internet; blocking me from certain sites by sending me to a page with a link to download spyware.

for those affected by websites being blocked, goto your hosts file and delete it.

this should get your internet back to working

windows checks your host file for routing information, and redirects you accordingly, it seems comepletatla modifies this to route popular sites, google, bebo, etc to their domain where they try to get you to buy tools to clean their crud.

I had same problem. This is what I did this morning to make it work. If yours is windows, check hosts file . I think it is under Windows/system32/drivers/etc. If that file has mapping for sites http://www.google.com etc.., Remove all those mappings.
I think empty hosts file is OK. If not just add the following.
    127.0.0.01 localhost

It works just fine to erase all the data in the hosts file.
Open it with wordpad and erase all the text. Then save it and reopen your browser. Now it works fine…

That should remove “Completala” from the system.

After that if you have problems browsing internet, then you need to empty “hosts” file. For this
    a) Close the broswer
    b) Open C:Windowssystem32driversetchosts file with notepad.
    c) remove all the text
    d) Save the file

Now open the browser and browse internet. It should work fine
